Bonnie is the secretary for the Society in Europe.
Born Suffolk, Virginia USA March 1956. Married to Ken McKerracher 36 years
Trained in primary education in Glasgow 1975 – 1977, with an interest in special educational needs (then remedial education) and drama. In 1984, I designed educational role play outfits to help Kathryn, who was severely delayed developmentally and non verbal, join in play with her siblingsJeni and Michael. Established Bonnie’s Workshop, and Playwear Plus role play outfits are still available and in use in Action for Sick Children Hospital and Dental Playboxes in the UK. Travelled extensively with Kathryn to Chromosome 18 conferences, and assisted her during a study tour of schools and colleges in the US to document the services available to deaf students with additional needs as a result of a Jack Ashley Millenium Award.
Member of Unique, Rare Chromosome Disorder Support Group since 1990.
In 2008 we met Chris and Judy Wilkinson in Plymouth , Massachusetts, and began work to found the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society (Europe), which was registered as a charity in Scotland in March 2009. Organised the first Chromosome 18 Europe family conference in Glasgow in 2010, and was overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm of family, friends and speakers who came to share information with families from all over Europe, Israel, Australia and the United States. |
